NEUROSTEM® aims
to treat patients suffering from neuro-degenerative
disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Amyotrophic
Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and stroke via recovery
of functionality and tissues of the central nervous
system. The hUCB-MSCs in NEUROSTEM® are
believed to promote both proliferation and differentiation
of neuro-progenitor cells within the host thereby
restoring functionality of the tissue.
Pre-clinical
study using transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's
Disease (AD) showed a significant reduction and
clearance of Amyloid-beta plaques following a single
parenchymal injection of NEUROSTEM®.
The transgenic mice transplanted with NEUROSTEM® showed
significant improvements in spatial learning and
memory recovery. The results suggested that NEUROSTEM® induced
release of therapeutic proteins (such as anti-apoptotic,
anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress) from
endogenous cells through paracrine actions.
NEUROSTEM® is
currently at clinical trial phase I for Alzheimer's
disease patients, approved by Korea FDA. We expect
cognitive decline due to AD to retard through administration
of NEUROSTEM®.
