Human Umbilical Cord Blood - Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hUCB-MSC) are
free from ethical controversy
which may arise during clinical
and commercial development
of stem cell drugs. We obtain
hUCB-MSCs from the cord
blood, which is regarded
as medical waste despite
the fact that it has been
used for hematopoietic stem
cell transplantation (HSCT)
for over two decades. Use
of cord blood has been proven
to be safe with over 140,000
cases of HSCT performed
world- wide without any
occurrence of teratoma.
hUCB-MSCs possess
excellent proliferation
capacity with ability to
differentiate into multiple
types of cells or tissues.
They are immune-privileged
and thus their allogeneic
use does not cause adverse
immune reactions. hUCB-MSCs
harvested from cord blood
show the lowest levels of
immunogenicity compared
to those by other types
of adult stem cells. In
fact, instead of provoking
the immunogenicity, they
rather modulate the adverse
immune reactions within
the host and therefore making
hUCB-MSCs an ideal candidate
for mass-producible stem
cell drug for allogeneic
use.
MEDIPOST's capability for
standardized processing
and mass-production of hUCB-MSCs
allows manufacture of "off-the-shelf"
adult stem cells drugs.
MEDIPOST has conducted many
pre-clinical studies and
clinical trials demonstrating
the safety and efficacy
of hUCB-MSCs as therapeutic
adult stem cell drug for
medicinal use.
